The Fundamentals

Emphysema, sometimes referred to as COPD, is a very debilitating disease that destroys lung tissue. Heavy smokers sometimes develop symptoms after long sustained cigarette use. It usually occurs in patients over 50. Chronic bronchitis, often seen in patients prior to developing emphysema, is inflammation of the lung tissue. Symptoms include coughing, increased sputum or phlegm production, and difficulty breathing.

Statistics

--Two out of 1,000 people suffer from emphysema.
--Males with emphysema outnumber females by 65%.
--Almost 20,000 people die from emphysema each year.

Symptoms

--Shortness of breath after light exercise
--Chronic cough
--Chronic shortness of breath
--Bluish discoloration of skin due to lack of oxygen

Emphysema

E
mphysema is a chronic lung condition that is a major cause of death and disability in the United States. Over two million individuals, mostly over the age of 50, are affected in the United States.
Research shows that normal lungs have an extraordinary balance between two types of chemicals with opposing actions. Elastic fibers in the lungs allow the lungs to expand and contract, but When the chemical balance is altered, (and there are many ways this can happen), the lungs lose the ability to protect themselves against the destruction of these elastic fibers. This is what happens in emphysema. There are a number of things that cause the chemical imbalance, smoking being the number one reason and responsible for the majority of emphysema and other pulmonary diseases. Emphysema begins with the destruction of air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs where oxygen from the air is exchanged for carbon dioxide in the blood. Breathing becomes difficult as the lung is destroyed, causing obstructions in airways and trapping air, permanent holes in the tissues, and reduction in elasticity in the lungs. It is difficult for those with emphysema to exhale. They must forcefully blow the air from the lungs, which puts pressure on the airways from the outside, compresses them, and causes them to collapse. Excessive coughing may cause the airways to collapse as well. The heart must also work harder to circulate blood through the lungs. Emphysema comes on very gradually, usually after years of exposure to cigarette smoke and other environmental toxins. The individual may suffer from shortness of breath after brief or light exercise, and often, from chronic bronchitis before emphysema develops. Omega UR is a respiratory support product based on a traditional American herbalist formula. This formula contains a strong expectorant that helps the body release phlegm, clears passages, detoxify, and assist the body in returning respiratory passages to normal functioning.

We strongly recommend the use of a physician for the diagnostic phase of any treatment. With an accurate diagnosis in hand, we believe the consumer, at that point, has a basic, unalienable right to seek out factual information on all therapeutic approaches, both orthodox and alternative, and choose those approach(es) that are right for them. Nonetheless, a "good doctor" should be considered a requisite starting point.
